Summer is heating up and the Mudslingers pottery club has the perfect place to cool off. Our intro to hand-building class can be enjoyed in our pottery studio. To enroll, drop by the studio during studio hours and provide your contact information on the signup sheet (located on the bulletin board). The cost is only $20. During that first session, you build your own pottery piece with the assistance of the class facilitator. The second session covers various glazing techniques showing how you can add your personal colors to your creation. When done, it’s yours to keep, whether you join Mudslingers or not. The membership fee for July through December is $25, 50% off the normal annual membership—quite a bargain for six months of studio usage. Our next intro to hand-building class is Wednesday, Aug. 9, noon to 2 p.m.
What’s great about pottery is that it can be meditative and therapeutic. It takes you away from internet surfing, checking emails, and texting with others. It’s your time to enjoy an easy, soothing experience. Clay dries slowly. So, you can have as many pieces in the pipeline as you like.
Did you know there are celebrity potters out there, such as Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Serena Williams? People with busy lives always make time for their personal pursuit of pottery. Here’s another fun twist on how popular this art has become: “The Great Pottery Throw Down,” where Britain’s best home potters compete to be crowned champion potter.
The pottery studio hours are Mondays and Wednesdays, 12:30 to 3 p.m., and Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Please stop by during studio hours to chat with our monitors who will show you around the facility. Check out our website at www.sbr-mudslingers.club.
