A few months ago, Nina Fickett came to SaddleBrooke Ranch and taught a mixed-media class that was well received by all the students. She is returning on Thursday, Aug. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for a different type of mixed-media class: Making a Master Board. So, bring your lunch, enjoy the fellowship of other students, and have fun in this class!

What is a master board, you may be thinking? Well, envision an 11” x 14” single, large board where you create a mixed-media collage using items that Nina will be supplying you. From there, you can use this master board in a variety of ways to create other artistic endeavors as showcased in the picture.

For those who do not know Nina, she is a second-generation artist. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts and her years of artistic discovery led her to experiment with paper and collage work. Adding to this creativity is her passion for including mixed media and texture within her collages.

You may have seen Nina’s artwork at the Southern Arizona Arts Guild at La Encantada. She also has her own YouTube channel. She sells her beautiful mixed media journals and artwork throughout the country through Etsy.

Class description: Students will learn to make a master board, which is a single large collage made to be subsequently cut or torn into pieces for a specific purpose or project. In this class, students will make a master board, and from that master board, they can create other works of art, such as greeting cards, tags, bookmarks, and/or magnets. Let your creativity reign after you have made the master board!
