Wheel throwing is a process of forming clay into shapes on a potter’s wheel. It is a common technique for making mugs, bowls, and plates. Learning how to wheel throw can be challenging. Diane Bouchard, one of our most talented potters, volunteered to teach a throwing class at the studio. During the three–day course the students learned to wedge clay for throwing on the wheel. They also learned about centering the clay, raising the walls, trimming the piece, and the proper set-up and clean-up of the wheel area. Practice, practice, practice is the most important key to successful throwing on the wheel. Fortunately, we have six fully equipped wheels at the studio. (No, Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore will not be appearing.)
The studio offers a variety of classes to help the beginner members with their creations. Stop by and check us out! The studio is located in the Arts and Tech Center. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
