Mudslingers Glazing Class and Studio Tour

Sue Fetters

It was a busy day at the pottery studio for our intro class students. With Bonnie Roach’s expert guidance, they learned how to properly glaze the pottery pieces they made in the intro class two weeks ago. Glaze is the liquid that comes in nearly every color and is used to waterproof, decorate, and give a smooth, glassy-like surface to the pottery once it has been fired. The general process of glazing is applying the glaze to bisque-ware, letting it dry, then loading the pottery piece into the kiln for the glaze firing. With Bonnie’s guidance, the students learned the basics of glazing and can use those techniques to create many beautiful pieces.

After the glazing session, the students were given a very thorough tour of the studio by Karen Nelson. During the 40-minute tour, Karen explained all the equipment and tools offered at the studio. With membership, all the equipment and glazes are there to be used at no charge. Karen also explained the rules and procedures of the studio and why we have them. There are so many wonderful volunteers giving their time and expertise to all the new and less experienced potters. We thank you all!

Introduction classes are scheduled monthly. Stop by and sign up! The studio is located in the Arts and Tech Center. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
