Mudslingers Offer Demonstration Classes

Sue Fetters

Exciting news from the Pottery Studio! We are now offering our members a variety of teaching demonstrations. All sorts of pottery techniques are offered and taught by our senior members. Any member can attend these demonstrations at no charge and can learn new and different methods of pottery crafting.

In July, Diane Bouchard showed our members how to reclaim clay. This is a process of recycling scrap clay into usable clay. It’s a great way to reduce waste and create new work from what would otherwise be discarded.

Another demonstration in July was taught by Teri Thomas. She showed the members how to use underglaze and slip to decorate pottery. A very interesting and unique process, decorating with underglaze involves applying color, patterns, detail, and design to a clay piece before applying the clear glaze.

Slip, sometimes referred to as liquid clay, is essentially a liquid mix of pieces of clay in water. Decorating with slip on clay offers a range of possibilities for adding several different colors and or texture to pottery.

We at Mudslingers are so grateful to have such knowledgeable members who volunteer their time and expertise to teach others.

The Pottery Studio is located at the Arts and Tech Center. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; some evening hours are available.
