National Parks Club February Meeting a Huge Success!

Scott Stonum, superintendent of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, speaking at the February meeting

Miriam Brock

More than 100 residents and guests attended the Feb. 1 meeting of the National Parks Club (NPC). The highlight of the meeting was the presentation by Scott Stonum, superintendent of Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. Scott provided a wealth of information on the unique flora and fauna that can be seen at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, which covers roughly 330,000 acres of land near Ajo, Ariz. One interesting fact Scott shared is that the park is the only place in the United States where the senita and organ pipe cactus grow wild.

Also during the meeting, Steve Jacobs of the travel committee shared with members additional details on the upcoming March 26 NPC trip to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The trip is currently filled, with a waiting list. Frank Morris then discussed a much-anticipated six-day trip to Canyonlands and Arches National Park for September 2024.
