New Four-Session Class: Beauty and Harmony in the Still Life

The talented artwork of Diane Meyer, Ph.D.

Dale Farland

This new class is designed to meet the student at any level of experience and proficiency with whatever medium resonates: from simple sketching, to watercolor painting, to oil painting, to acrylic painting. This unique class is open to every level of artist, and every type of art medium is welcome!

If you’ve been afraid to attempt any kind of art, this is a very special and unique place of self-discovery! If you are a seasoned artist, it’s an opportunity to reconnect and reignite your innate creative language. Students/artists will celebrate their personal style and creative expression.

Still life is the arranging of nature, objects, and light in a setting that resembles a small theater. We’ll explore the interaction of light and color, what makes beauty by movement and visual harmony. We may even set the still life to tell a story or evoke a memory. Students will be able to decide how simple or detailed they want to be. Do not be intimidated. This class is for all skill levels.

Diane Meyer,  Ph.D., is a professional artist and is experienced in all mediums. Her watercolor paintings have been exhibited nationally and are housed in more than 25 distinguished corporate and museum collections. Diane is an instructor at Pima Community College.

Class description: Class format consists of two two-day work weeks: Oct. 11, 12 and Oct. 25, 26. The first week we will work with smaller paintings/drawings. The second week of classes will be oriented toward one larger, more intricate piece. For all classes, there will be a still life offered, but students are welcome to contribute or bring their own objects to paint or draw. We will discuss compositional elements, mixing colors and properties of their medium, application methods, developing subject matter and genres, and refine our observational skills as we spend the time creating a beautiful work of art!

This is a wonderful class that brings all mediums together in one “song.” Who knows, maybe you’ll be tempted to try something new?
