The Shelves Are Bare!

Barbara Barr

Imagine trying to survive on Social Security, a job at the local fast-food joint, or food stamps after losing your job. Imagine scraping away to pay the electric bill, the water bill, and the rent or mortgage and not having enough left over to purchase shampoo, deodorant, or even toothpaste. While there is help with food and other areas, there is no place to turn to for personal hygiene products. While it might be hard for us to imagine, so many people face this every day.

Enter the team of the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke and IMPACT of Southern Arizona. IMPACT has a program to provide food and personal hygiene products, but the personal hygiene shelves are bare! Under the leadership of Linda and John Howard, the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is collecting shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, soap, and other personal care items for IMPACT. This not only includes items that can be purchased at stores, but also travel-size items from hotels.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke collects these items each week at our meetings on Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. at the Ranch House Brewery and Grill at SaddleBrooke Ranch. Donations can be dropped off at the Ranch location or to a member of the Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke. If you would like to make a contribution, please email [email protected] and we can pick up your items.

There is so much joy that comes from helping others. And it’s even more fun to work with the people. That’s what Rotary is all about—people helping people, both locally and globally! But Rotary is so much more!

To tell you a little more about the Rotary story, Rotary is the world’s first service organization. Today, Rotary has grown to be the world’s largest volunteer organization. Rotarians can be found in more countries than the Red Cross, Starbucks, or even McDonald’s.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is not only an award-winning organization devoted to making a difference locally and globally, it is also a club that enjoys coming together for lunch and lifelong learning. We currently meet weekly at the Ranch House Brewery and Grill at SaddleBrooke Ranch and on Zoom for weekly programs. Plus, we enjoy getting together for social events and service projects. We have fun making a difference.

The Rotary Club of SaddleBrooke is open to anyone who is living or working in SaddleBrooke, SaddleBrooke Ranch, Oracle, Catalina, Oro Valley, and all surrounding communities. For more information, contact Wendy Guyton at 520-404-5712 or [email protected].
