Betty PearceMember since 2010

Betty Pearce moved to SBR in August 2009 from Rhode Island after spending her whole life in the Northeast. She was grateful to get out of the cold and explore a new area of the country.

She had never done any paper crafting until coming to Arizona after retiring. Her interest in creating cards and paper objects started when a friend in Rhode Island gave out handmade cards and little paper gifts to her exercise group. She gave Betty an Easter card with the perfect Stampin Up embossed chocolate bunny on it. She was so impressed and kept it for years. Those gifts introduced her to what paper crafting could include since she really only knew of scrapbooking, which wasn’t something that interested her at that time.

In late 2010, the La Hacienda Club opened and a friend of Betty’s, Chris Nunamaker, who was a paper crafter/scrapbooker, started it all when she signed up to have a room for crafting. She taught Betty and others paper crafting using stamps and the Cricut cutting machine. They had no supplies or equipment, only what Chris provided for paper projects and what they purchased on their own. The group remained small until they moved into the Arts and Tech Center in 2019. With the space and tools provided by Robson, the paper crafting group grew and grew. The individuals who were new to paper crafting increased their interests and skills by attending the card making club at SaddleBrooke and by going to workshops throughout Tucson. Plus the members spent time together in the studio.

Betty enjoys making cards because there are so many ideas and beautiful papers to choose from. She likes the challenges that some unusual folds or stamping techniques provide. She loves Pinterest as a great source of inspiration.

She concluded this conversation in the best way by saying SBR paper crafting provides space, tools, materials, and most of all, friendships.
