“How would you all like to look more attractive?” That was the opening line of Sue Ross’ presentation to the attendees of the October 11 SaddleBrooke Ranch Birthday Club luncheon. Well, that sure got everyone’s attention…who doesn’t want to look better?

Sue has been in the image consulting field for 24 years. Originally from New York City, she moved to Tucson in 1976. A dental hygienist by training, Sue changed her career in 1991 and was trained by Tupperware-owned BeautiControl Cosmetics in Dallas, Texas. She subsequently started her own business moved into her home studio from where she still works today.

Sue asked, what is it that people notice most upon meeting someone for the first time? Is it your skin, hair, attitude or makeup? And as the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression, so it better be a good one. Sue does color analysis for clients and talked about how the right or wrong color can make all the difference in how you look. The right color will highlight and complement your looks, while the wrong one will be unflattering.

Helping to keep us current, Sue shared that the ‘in’ colors for this season are grey, purple, eggplant, wine and pine green, with red being favored to accessorize. The shapes for this year include the return of flared pants with a higher waist than in recent years and the shirtwaist dress. “Grunge is gone,” she said, adding that “animal prints are back, as well as mixed patterns.” Shoes are getting lower and chunkier, and shoe boots and sneakers in colors are in.

Sue suggested that the basics for any wardrobe are a shirtwaist dress, classic white shirt, black or navy pants, scarves and jackets in a variety of lengths. “Femininity is back!” she declared.

It’s important for women to know their body type and style. What looks good on one person may not on another. “Are you classic, natural, dramatic, romantic or cool?” she asked. And when it comes to makeup, Sue says to keep it simple and not overdone. “It’s always easier to add more than to take off too much,” she advised. To demonstrate how easy and quick it is to apply your makeup, Sue did a five-minute makeup application on our very own Sherry Weiss. Sue showed how you just need lipstick, lip liner, mascara and a little shadow. “And remember, your brows frame your face, so make sure to shape them from the bottom of your nose to the outside of your eye,” she said.

All luncheon guests received a gift and a gift certificate for a complimentary consultation. Sue also does mobile spa parties, personal shopping, closet clean out, personalized facials and color and style analyses. She can be reached at 520-991-0365 or by email at [email protected].
