The horseback riding group headed to nearby Westward Look resort for a pretty ride through the foothills of the Catalina Mountains on Nov. 30, 2024. The mountains stood out against the bright blue sky making the ride especially enjoyable. Although the trail is in what would appear to be a very urban setting, the stable has several acres of open area with plenty of desert plants and shrubs to ride through.
The Horseback Riding Group was organized in 2011. The group rides at a variety of stables from October to April. There are two rides coming up. On Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. the group will be riding at Tucson Mountain Stables in Marana. Set in the foothills by the Twin Peaks, this ride takes in some of the same trails as the White Stallion Ranch. The second ride will be on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Donnelly’s D-Spur Stable in Gold Canyon east of Apache Junction. This ride is a favorite as there are many acres of open range for the ride and it is also usually a bit warmer closer to Phoenix. There are also nice views of the Superstition Mountains.
If you would be interested in the group’s activities, go to the Saddlebrooke HOA website, “Things to do,” then “Clubs.” There in the middle column is a link to the “Horseback Riding Group.” Click on that and then on the website link underneath the phone number to see upcoming rides.
If you would like to participate in a particular ride, simply send an email shown on the HOA screen as the contact email to Rebecca. Give your name, the ride you want to join, and the time if there is a choice. She will get back to you by email with a confirmation and can help with any questions you may have. You can participate as often as you choose. All rides are one hour at a walk, just to enjoy the scenery.
