Riders Enjoy a Campfire Breakfast!

Rebecca Williams

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Horseback Riding Group had a taste of the Old West with a Breakfast Ride at Tanque Verde Ranch on the east side of Tucson. The group of thirteen gathered at the stable (with some 30 other guests) for the 40-minute ride along the foothills of the Rincon Mountains; to dismount for a wonderful chuck wagon that served delicious blueberry pancakes fresh off a wood fired griddle, plain or Ranch style eggs laced with cheddar cheese, and diced Hatch chilies, coffee, juice, and whole fruits. It was wonderful to sit in the fresh air and take in the spectacular views of the saguaros from the site of the old ranch house. Then, a quick 20-minute ride took the group back to the corral for dismount. Everyone agreed it was well worth getting on the road at 6 a.m., to get to the venue to enjoy such a wonderful breakfast on such a beautiful day!

This breakfast ride at Tanque Verde Ranch is offered on Thursdays and Sundays during the season. Feel free to call them for reservations if you have guests in town who would enjoy this activity. It is also posted on their website.

The group’s next ride will be on Saturday, March 28, at Colossal Cave in Vail. This has been a favorite spot, and a number of the group have taken the opportunity to also visit Colossal Cave itself. This is one of the oldest caves in the area and always a special treat.

The SaddleBrooke Ranch Riding Group is open to any SaddleBrooke Ranch resident. If there is room on a ride, residents may also invite guests. There is no need to attend all of the rides. Come to the rides that fit into your schedule. The group’s secretary coordinates the reservations. Prior experience is not required. Many have not been on a horse since their teenage years. The rides are typically one hour to 90 minutes at a walk, just to enjoy the scenery.
