Okay, softball junkies, here’s the past and future in the action-packed world of SaddleBrooke softball. You won’t be a’readin’ this until early October, and our Labor Day Tourney, sponsored by Debra Miller–State Farm and Stretch Zone, will be in “the books” by then. Thanks again! Summer season continued through Sept. 19, so there’ll be more on that in the next edition. Meanwhile, next up? Veterans Day Tournament in early November!
Then the softballers will take about a three-week break and be “back at it” for the fall season the second week of October through mid-December. The “birds” will be flocking back south, and the rosters should be packed.
Summer League Action
Well, folks, as this article is written we’re seven weeks into the summer season, and things are hotter’n the pavement around here at 2 o’clock! The girls and boys of summer are back at it keepin’ themselves cool and their bats hot.
On Mondays in Recreational, Absolutely Art is holding steady at 4-3, with their partners in softball mayhem, Ambient Air Heating and Cooling, trying to hang on at 3-4. Over to Community, where X-Pert Automotive is off on a 5-2 roll and Your CBD Store is dragging at 2-5. There’s not likely to be any trades at this stage of the season, so the CBDers are “in trouble” with just two games left (the tournament takes a Monday away from this league).
Tuesday is Competitive-only this summer, as “the birds” are all up north. Ann Fraley-Long Realty has got Andy’s Irrigation firmly by the drippers with a 5-2 record to the “Mayberrys’” 2-5. Been Gomered! Shazam!
On Wednesdays in Sidewinder, Splendido has surged out to a 3-2 league lead, while Ridgeview Physical Therapy has faltered to a 2-3 record.
Thursday is Coyote day (65-plusers), and while Anne Glenn-Long Realty started strong with a first-game victory, Barron Electric has come back strong, and these two teams are locked at 3-3 each in (need I say it?) an epic battle for the season bragging rights.
On Fridays in Competitive, Beyond Clean is just plain mopping up at 5-1, with Big Bear Garage Doors the “mopees” at 1-5. With just four games left, Big Bear has gotta get smarter (and hit and catch better) than the average bear. In Community, there’s a battle with Bubb’s Grub at 4-2 and Brittni Guttman–Allstate at 2-4.
Post-Game Wrap
Annnnd cut! That’s a wrap, folks! Summer League games are daily, Monday through Friday, starting at 8 a.m. (8:30 a.m. on Tuesday only). Two games a day on Mondays and Fridays—just one on Wednesdays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. So, beat the heat; come on down early! Practices are on Saturday when you can tune the bat and glove. If you want more info, come on down to the field. Someone will yap with you. Or you can surf the Association (the SSSA) at saddlebrookesoftball.com.
The Veterans Day Tournament is in November. Put it on your calendar!
