The next meeting of the SaddleBrooke Ranch Conservatives (SBRC) is Wednesday, June 10, in the SBR Sol Ballroom from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
The American people have long held a deep respect for the judicial system of the United States. It is a system grounded in the fundamental principle that every individual accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Equally important is the commitment to fairness—where disputes are heard impartially and justice is rendered without regard to status, background, or influence. In recent years, however, many Americans have begun to question how judges are selected—whether through election or appointment—and how those processes impact the integrity of our courts. To explore these important issues, SBRC invited the Honorable Andrew W. Gould, former Justice of the AZ Supreme Court, to speak at our general meeting on June 10. He will share his insights on the judicial system in Arizona and at the national level. We encourage you to invite your friends/neighbors to attend this timely and important discussion. Also speaking at the meeting will be Justice Ellie Brown.
Judge Andrew W. Gould, Retired. Judge Gould is a former AZ Supreme Court Justice, serving on the court from 2016 to 2021. During his tenure, he participated in significant rulings involving constitutional law, free speech, and religious liberty. Prior to joining the state’s highest court, Judge Gould served on the AZ Court of Appeals from 2012 to 2016, and spent more than a decade as a judge on the Yuma County Superior Court. He also was a prosecutor in Yuma and Maricopa counties. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Montana, and his law degree from Northwestern University School of Law. Since retiring from the bench, he has continued his legal work in private practice, focusing on appellate and constitutional law, and remains an active voice on legal and constitutional issues.
Honorable Ellie Brown—Copper Corridor Court (Precinct 5). Judge Brown serves as a justice in the Copper Corridor District in Pinal Co., AZ, and is a long-time resident of the area. Judge Brown has three-plus decades of public service in Pinal County. She began her career in 1991, and her various roles have included judicial clerk, supervisor, judicial liaison, administrator, and director. She served as a Judge Pro Tempore, and in 2022 was appointed Presiding Magistrate Judge for the Town of Superior. She was elected to the Copper Corridor Justice Court, and presides over criminal cases, traffic violations, civil disputes, protective orders, and small claims. She has a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, and a B.S. degree in Administration and Management. Judge Brown and her husband live in the Copper Corridor area.
