Gratitude is something we usually consider during the fall and winter holiday season (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, and/or Kwanzaa). But sometimes we may forget to practice gratitude daily.
Samarea Lenore, PhD, Clinical Health Psychology Fellow, defines gratitude as, “the active practice of appreciation of positive regard for self in life, for those around you, achievements, successes, and more.”
When life “throws us a curveball,” (let’s face it, the older we get the more likely that will happen) being thankful for the daily happenings can make an impact on both mental and physical well-being. Studies and research show that gratitude can lead to positive effects in many areas of life, including stress reduction, sleep, energy, and mental health.
Even if life is perfect right now, do yourself a favor and get in the habit of practicing daily gratitude. In fact, make it your 2025 New Year’s resolution!
On Jan. 24, the Cancer Support Group (open to anyone who has or has had cancer; or anyone whose loved one has experienced cancer) will meet for our quarterly gathering.
