Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night keeps SaddleBrooke Ranch Men’s Golf Association (SBRMGA) golfers from the swift completion of their scheduled rounds. Indeed, Mother Nature challenged the Ryder Cup teams. Not to worry, 104 resolute golfers plus some substitutes comprising two teams completed three days of competition. Team captains—Red Team, Jim Rodine and assistant Mick Borm, and Blue Team, Phil Bartko and assistant Eric Taylor—kept the men engaged each day. The captains welcomed their teams at pre-event socials. Many thanks to Kathleen and Monika for their assistance, too.
After day one of four-ball, two-man team best ball team competition, the Red Team held a 3-point advantage, 14.5 to 11.5. Day two foursomes, a chapman alternate shot format, witnessed a comeback by the Blue Team, winning the day by 6 points, 15.5 to 9.5. Day three, with 52 singles matches, was the determining day. The Red Team won the Ryder Cup with total points of 52 to 51 by the Blue Team. Congratulations to all.
Players winning all three matches for the Red Team included Bruce Crawford, Jim Lindley, Mike McManus, and Rick Snowden. Blue Team players winning all three matches included Bill Lockett, Rick Newberg, and Doug Redfield. Other players, from both teams, undefeated over the three days included Bruce Haney, Ed Hashim, Ross Horton, Mark Lewis, Jeff McPheeters, Tom Merrick, Matt Rippy, B.J. Shultz, Eric Taylor, and John Whitehead. Congratulations to these golfers.
We look forward to a challenging 2024 Ryder Cup. Hopefully having fewer weather concerns. It’s great to be golfing!
