SBRTA Serve for the Cure

Sue Cook

SaddleBrooke Ranch Tennis Association (SBRTA) is immensely proud of our tennis community! The very dynamic tennis club hosted the annual Serve for the Cure, an amazing fundraiser for breast cancer awareness and prevention. Forty players participated in the fun and over a dozen volunteers worked tirelessly to make the event an enormous success!

Stacy West spearheaded the fundraising and celebration lunch. SBRTA raised $2,700 in donations in lieu of registration fees along with donations from the community. An additional $800 was raised in a 50/50 drawing. The winner was Michelle Bills, who generously donated her winnings back to Bosom Buddies of AZ.

Other prizes include:

* A beautiful gift basket was awarded to Marnie Binney and Tracy Perrelle for the most creative and festive attire worn by the women. They generously gave their basket to Eileen Bellestri, who embroidered Serve for the Cure hand towels as part of the swag provided to players.

* Dennis Voye’s pink tutu landed him the prize for the most festive attire for the men.

* Marnie Binney and Tracy Perrelle won the most games in the Women’s bracket of the Round Robin Tournament.

* John Pieri and Mark Adamson won the Survivor Men’s Bracket.

* Tim Legel and Mark Bellestri won the Warrior Men’s Bracket.

* Sam Calbone and Debbie Christie dominated the Pop competition.

Everyone who participated as players, volunteers, or spectators went home as winners. All had a great time while contributing to breast cancer prevention and awareness. Special thanks to Liz Walker for baking 50 artfully decorated pink cupcakes for the event.
