SBRTA: Serving Up Summer Fun

Summers at the Ranch may be sweltering, but for tennis enthusiasts it is no sweat. The courts are full of players early mornings, and for those who are not early birds, there was Wednesday Nights Under the Lights weekly social play. In addition to regular court times, the SaddleBrooke Ranch Tennis Association (SBRTA) event organizers, Debbie Argabright and Jill Stark, had been busy providing entertaining social events for members throughout the summer.

On June 19, tennis club members gathered at the Oro Valley Gaslight Theater for an evening of music and dancing featuring A Reckless Summer, a Bryan Adams Tribute band. A rockin’ time was had by all!

Not all tennis entertainment has to be outdoors. Fortunately, for sizzling summer afternoons there is indoor TV viewing for tennis aficionados. Summers mark two of the most exciting professional grand slam tennis tournaments. The first of the summer grand slams is the Roland Garros/French Open, held in June on clay courts in Paris, France.

In July, the oldest tennis tournament in the world and widely regarded as the most prestigious of the slams, is the annual Wimbledon tournament played on the famous grass courts of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London.

As a homage to Wimbledon, the SBRTA event organizers held Wimbledon at The Ranch on July 9. Members engaged in a fun two hours of round robin tennis play, followed by a social complete with Wimbledon’s signature Pimm’s drink and Englishstyle appetizers.

As summer fades and cooler weather prevails, more tennis enjoyment is yet to come. Stay tuned for SBRTA’s signature event, the annual Steiness Festival on Nov. 1113.
