SaddleBrooke Ranch Women’s Golf Association hosted its sixth annual Sadie Hawkins tournament on Sept. 10, with a record number of 84 participants—40% more than last year. I think we can call this a gol-dern, knee slapping, successful event! Our mystery announcer gave us directions for the game with his authentic (and hysterical) hillbilly drawl and country lingo. Thank you, mystery pro shop member for adding to the fun!
This event is inspired by Al Capp’s classic hillbilly comic strip “Li’l Abner” (1934-1978). The premise is that females invite males for a date or dance. In our event, ladies invited another man, not their spouse or significant other, with a U.S. Golf Association handicap to be their partner for the day.
The format was a two-person better ball. It was a bit windy, but the temperature was fantastic. This was our first “cool” day in a long time! After the tournament, everyone gathered in the Sol Ballroom for a wonderful lunch and a free round of drinks, courtesy of Toni Graves who got a hole-in-one on number 14 that day! Thank you, Toni! There were a lot of cheers and congratulations going around!
The overall winning “couple” was Diane Taylor and Rick Wright with a net 57! Congratulations!

A big thank you to our Social Events committee for another amazing event. The food and decorations were awesome, as usual. We also need to thank our tireless League Day team for setting up the scorecards and flights. And last, but not least, our pros, Mike Jahaske and Ken Steinke, for all of their help with scoring and maybe a few other things?
