King Mitchell (aka Mitch)
Well SaddleBrooke Senior Softball fans, here is our updated news.
Labor Day Tournament. On Sept. 2, the SaddleBrooke Senior Softball Association (SSSA) put on a softball extravaganza with three games of softball “dramedy.” There was plenty of softball, food, drinks, tunes, and neighborly chatter. Sponsored by Debra Miller, State Farm Insurance, with the dogs and brats grilled up by longtime grill master Doug Wagers of Window Wizards.
In game one, Overhead Garage Doors put the hurt on Debra Miller, State Farm Insurance, 18 to 4. Then in the Competitive game Canine & Company edged out Bubbs Grubb 18 to 17. And finally, in the Community-Coyote game, Cactus Garage Doors outlasted Catalina Family Dental 19 to 16. Next up is our Veterans Day Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 9!
Summer League Action. It’s over! The Summer league ended Sept. 20. There was about a two–week break for recuperation and the softballers were back at it Oct. 7. A full complement of leagues is on slate.
Summer League final results:
On Mondays, in Recreational, Ambient Air Heating & Cooling took down the league title at 7-2 with Coyote Golf Cars in the cellar at 2-7. Then in Community (AAA ball), Tucson Orthopaedic outlasted The Moore Advantage Real Estate to take the league honors at 5-4, with Moore at 4-5.
On to Tuesdays! In Community, Twin Lake Air Conditioning and Heating and Waste Management went head-to-head all season with both finishing at 5-5. In Competitive (AAAA), Andy’s Irrigation took four in a row to post a 7-3 record to Tom Ottaway-State Farm’s at 3-7.
On Wednesdays, it was Sidewinder only this summer. But Wildfire Wings took the last two to take the league title at 6-4 over Wanda Fudge Long Realty at 4-6.
On Thursdays, it was Coyote league only and the 65-plussers had Window Wizards taking the last two to finish at 7-3 with X-Pert Automotive at 3-7.
On to Fridays! In Competitive, Splendido took the last two to finish at 6-3 with Your CBD Store in the cellar at 3-6. Then in Community ball, Ann Fraley-Long Realty jumped out to win the first three games, dropped two in a row, won the next two, and then lost the last two. That was enough to take the league championship at 5-4 over Beyond Clean’s 4-5.
Softball “Tourism.” As I have mentioned, some Brooke folks travel a bit as part of their retirement “gig.” Road trips, cruises, and yes—softball tournaments. Yup, some are just plain softball junkies.
Payson—Well the SaddleBrooke “Rattlers” traveled to Payson a couple of weeks ago and were in the hunt! They made it to the championship game but their bats turned to ice and their gloves to stones as they went down to defeat.
Anyhoo, you can always come down to the field and check the softball action Monday through Friday. Or you can surf us at saddlebrookesoftball.com. Remember, Veterans Day Tournament, Saturday, Nov. 9!
