Congratulations to the SaddleBrooke Ranch Tennis Association (SBRTA) Mixed Doubles United States Tennis League (USTA) 7.0 Team that finished with a 7-3 record, and the Men’s USTA 3.0 team that finished with a 5-2 record. The Mixed Doubles Team will move on to Southwest Sectionals held in Surprise, Ariz., in September and will compete among teams from various southwest states. However, the SaddleBrooke Ranch Tennis Association is not all sport and competition.

During the long, hot summer, the Special Events Committee chaired by Sue Cook and Paula Cartwright designed a creative lineup of social activities to foster camaraderie and new friendships among members. In May, SBRTA hosted a cornhole tournament and picnic at Ed’s Dogs and a good time was had by all. On June 19, the tennis members enjoyed appetizers and drinks on the Bistro patio at the “Cocktails by the Pool” event.

For POP Tennis aficionados or those interested in learning the game, the event committee hosted a POP Tennis clinic and ice cream social on June 25. Participants came ready to play after watching pro Chris Madsen’s short demonstration of POP Tennis. Players were then assigned courts according to their levels of play. Chris rotated through the courts offering tips and strategy suggestions while members and guests played. (Watch for the August Ranch Roundup for a special feature on POP Tennis.)

Coming up July 23, tennis members will rock to music from the Doors at the Gaslight Music Hall. Stay tuned for more fun and excitement as the year progresses. There is never a dull moment with the very active SBRTA.
