Team SBR: Strong—Brave—Resilient; Fighting Cancer with Knowledge: Cocktails and Creativity

Susan Swanson, art therapist

Sandy Jessop

Whether you have battled cancer yourself or you have supported a loved one, almost everyone has had an experience with this life-changing disease. If you have not been affected by cancer, you might want to go buy a lottery ticket, because you are a very lucky individual!

Each person is unique, and the way we deal with trauma is also distinct. Some of us feel supported by talking about a situation. Others like to keep feelings and experiences private. But experts agree that therapy works.

When you think of therapy, you may imagine a group of individuals sitting in a circle, talking, crying, and several other possibilities. But have you considered art therapy?

Cocktails and Creativity September Event

SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) is lucky to have a board-certified art therapist living right here at the Ranch! Susan Swanson, art therapist, has graciously offered to work with members (and nonmembers) of the SaddleBrooke Ranch Cancer Support Group at our September meeting! Please join us to welcome Susan as she leads us through a night of discovery and expression.

Our Cocktails and Creativity meeting—a night of food, drink, and art therapy—will be held Monday, Sept. 18, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the La Mesa Room in La Hacienda Club. Happy hour food and drinks will be available for purchase at the Bistro.

People have said that art therapy helped them share uncomfortable feelings. It also gave them support when they felt anxious and far away from loved ones. Studies have found that art therapy can have a positive effect on quality of life and symptoms in cancer patients.

Space is limited, so contact Sandy Jessop at [email protected] or 520-686-4566 to RSVP.
