Texas Club Social Committee Has Been Busy

Despite rumors that Texans spend the summer sitting on the porch arguing about barbecue, football, and whether Buc-ee’s should replace the state capitol, the Texas Club Social Committee has been hard at work rustling up a lineup of events for Texas Club members and our favorite “wannabe Texans.”

First up is Texas Bingo Night on Friday, July 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the La Montana Room. Expect an evening of laughs, friendly competition, and Texas-sized fun. The Bistro Bar will be open until 7 p.m., providing liquid encouragement for those whose bingo cards are as dry as a West Texas cattle tank in August. Whether you’re lucky, skilled, or just plain stubborn, there’s a seat waiting for you. More details and registration information will be emailed to members soon. Please rsvp so we’ll know how many tables, chairs, cards so you don’t have to share. Go to: SBR_TexasClub@googlegroups.com.

Toward the end of September, we’ll climb aboard our private Tucson Mural Trolley Tour. This outing will showcase many of Tucson’s beautiful and nationally recognized murals while we ride in comfort and let somebody else do the driving. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the city’s art, history, and culture without having to hunt for parking, argue with your GPS, or—heaven forbid—walk the entire route in the Arizona sunshine. More details will be headed your way faster than a blue norther across the Panhandle.

Then on Nov. 14, we’ll mosey over to the Gaslight Theatre for the 2 p.m. performance of The Odd Couple. The Gaslight is known for outstanding entertainment, good food, and enough laughter to make even an Aggie and a Longhorn sit together peacefully. Special arrangements will ensure our group is seated together so we can enjoy the show as one big Texas family. Ticket and reservation information will be available soon.

These events are just the beginning. The Social Committee is already cooking up additional opportunities for fun, friendship, fellowship, and the occasional spirited discussion about whose hometown serves the best brisket.

The Texas Club is open to all misplaced Texans, former Texans, part-time Texans, and those who simply wish they had been Texans. If you grew up there, lived there, worked there, married one, or learned that sweet tea is supposed to be sweet, you’ll fit right in. Being stuck in DFW during a flight connection, however, does not count as Texas citizenship.
