The Gardeners Exchange to host Warning Coordination Meteorologist

The Gardeners Exchange at SaddleBrooke Ranch welcomes Ken Drozd, Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service, on Tuesday, September 22, at 1:00 p.m. Please join us in La Mesa Room at La Hacienda Club.

Every gardener relies upon weather to bring the sunshine, bring the rain, cold chill bulbs and heat up our cacti. The National Weather Service (NWS), as a part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), provides forecasts and warnings for hazardous weather conditions to fulfill its mission of protecting life and property. A brief history of the NWS and the role of the local weather forecast office in Tucson will be presented.

Ken Drozd has been the Warning Coordination Meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Tucson since 2008. He is responsible for the NWS Tucson warning program, heads local outreach and weather safety efforts and serves as the primary contact for public safety officials and media relations.

Prior to arriving in Arizona, Ken worked as an operational meteorologist for National Weather Services offices in New Mexico, Nebraska and Iowa. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology from the University of Nebraska.

The Gardeners Exchange is dedicated to providing horticultural information for newcomers to desert landscaping. Bring your questions, bring your answers, bring your garden challenges, bring your excess plants to share. All are welcome. Open seating. No registration is required. For more information, please contact Zann Wilson at [email protected] or 219-263-3261.
