Joe Giammarino and Dominic Borland
Pool Players of the Brooke want to thank our generous sponsors Red Lobster and OOROO Auto Care. On December 2, 2017 the Pool Players of the Brooke hosted an 8-Ball Singles Tournament at the SaddleBrooke Billiard Center. Thankfully we had beautiful weather, and the players were comfortable sitting outside on the patio waiting for their turn to compete. Tournament directors were Dominic Borland and Joe Giammarino. The following field of 14 players gathered to play competitive 8-Ball: Dan “Oh No” Stebbins, Tom “Blind Squirrel” Barrett, Joe “Fast Eddie” Giammarino, Dominic “The Doctor” Borland, Ron “Dblo7” Ridge, Jim “Shooter” Fabio, Rich “Loose Rack” Galant (Ranch), Randy “Thin Man” Smith, Bruce Capra, Bruce “Hustler” Fink (Ranch), Karl “English” Knight, Joey “The Bartender” Poulin, Jim “The Artist” Morris and Tom “Ski” Kaliski.
Results:
First Place: Bruce “Hustler” Fink (Ranch). The cream of the crop today with 5 wins, 0 losses.
Second Place: Dominic “The Doctor” Borland. Another top 2 finish with 5 wins, 2 losses.
Third Place: Jim “Shooter” Fabio. He was in the hunt again with 3 wins, 2 losses.
Sponsors Gift Certificates: Red Lobster – Richard Galant; OOROO Auto Care – Bruce Capra
Recap:
Bruce “Hustler” Fink’s road to an unblemished victory started by beating Ron Ridge in the first round, sending Ron to the loser’s bracket. Bruce then defeated Randy Smith, overcoming Randy’s stealth defensive play. Next up for Bruce was Tom Kaliski; Tom racked the balls and watched as Bruce broke and ran the table. Congrats on the Break and Run! Jim Fabio was next for Bruce, and Jim just didn’t have enough today to defeat Bruce. Bruce sent Jim to the loser’s side. This put Bruce “On the Hill,” which means someone would have to defeat Bruce twice to take the title. Meanwhile Dominic was working his way through the loser’s bracket by defeating Joe Giammarino whom he had also beat in the first round, then outlasting Ron Ridge and Jim Fabio to get a chance to play Bruce for the championship. But Dominic would have to beat Bruce twice. Bruce was in stroke all day, and this game was no different. He outlasted Dominic and took the title. Congratulations, Bruce, and to all who competed.
Thanks to our hosts the Pool Players of the Brooke Billiards Club, the SaddleBrooke Billiards Center, to all the participants and sponsors.
A fun day was over after three hours and 26 games of 8-ball. The 14 participants competed and met some new friends that shared their passion. That is a good day! Rack ‘em up!
