Unit Happenings – December 2024

There was laughter, dancing, and camaraderie as approximately 50 neighbors enjoyed the afternoon together.

Fall Fun with Units 3 and 4A

Although the day started with clouds, rain, and even hail, by the afternoon of Oct. 19, the sun was shining and temps were in the mid-70sperfect conditions for a unit party. By popular demand, the band Total Recall made another appearance on the Sandpiper Place cul-de-sac, playing classics by The Eagles, Rolling Stones, and others. Noteworthy because of an amazing female drummer and saxophone riffs, Total Recall had the crowd rocking.

Unit 6 Halloween DanceFit Class

Our festive friends showed up early on Oct. 31 to celebrate Halloween by getting their workout in for the day. We stretched, danced to halloween tunes, learned some line dances like Monster Mash and Thriller, and even had a costume contest. After our cool down, we all enjoyed a nice breakfast buffet and handed out prizes for the best costumes. Fun and madness ensued as the witches and zombies wandered back to their dwellings, tired and full, to await an evening of Halloween fun.

Our ghouls and goblins enjoyed a festive evening at host Karen Handschy’s house for Halloween evening. Costumes were encouraged and lots of neighbors chose to participate. Everybody brought some food to enjoy and a feast was had by all. Even the neighbors decorated their front yard for this spirited event. We hope you enjoyed your Halloween.

Unit 16C Celebrates Oktoberfest

Lucy Lange

Guten Tag from Unit 16C as we continue on our international cuisine journey in October with a traditional Oktoberfest. Sandy and Rick Buonarigo (Italians pretending to be Germans for a night) cooked up bratwurst steamed, then simmered in beer, schwabischer kartoffel (that’s a big word for German potato salad), sauerkraut (no translation needed) and a very rich carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. Neighbors brought in Rotkohl (red cabbage) salad, pigs (wurst) in blankets, a salad with kummel sieht (caraway seeds) and German bread. There were lots of additional sides and desserts rounding out the menu so we all weighed a few extra pounds the next morning. Of course there was German beer and wine. The weather cooperated by turning cool (it was in the 90s during the day) so the Buonarigos had their three fire pits lit and lots of outside seating to enjoy the fall evening. It was a sehr schoner Abend.
