2024 Turkey Trot
Katie Lundgren
Unit 6 hosted the 3rd annual 5K walk/run Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. It was a beautiful morning, perfect for a pre-meal stroll. We had about 50 people and some furry friends join us this year, and a few more dressed up in their best turkey attire. All of the food and monetary donations benefitted IMPACT of Southern Arizona. We collected more than double last year’s donation of food and $1,700 in monetary donations. Thank you all for giving! There were medals for the fastest times of the male, female, and under 18 categories. A few people were “in it to win it.” The fastest of all was in the under 18 category, gold went to Beckham Beresh (his sister and brother won the silver and bronze). The first male and female gold medal winners were Katie Fidler and David Wilcox. Prizes were given for the best turkey costumes, with top honors going to Deb Belt. Everyone had fun. I hear there may have even been some champagne along the route. A great big thanks to all of our volunteers as well. We hope you and your family will join us in 2025. Happy New Year!
Unit 6 Wine Club Gathering
Katie Lundgren
Our Unit 6 Wine Club meets regularly to taste and learn about wines from different regions. Each host comes up with a theme or region that they share with the group. We’ve tasted Dessert Wines, Golf Wines, Local Wines, Central Coast California Wines, Costco Wines, and more. We’ve tasted wines from regions such as Portugal, Tuscany, and Mexico, and then we’ve veered off that path and tasted tequilas and margaritas. The theme this month was wines from Trader Joe’s, and to make it more festive, we made it a hat party! The winners of the most festive hats were Jackie and Bill St. Clair. Their prize was a bottle of Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon. Cheers from Unit 6!
Unit 8A Adopt a Highway

On Nov. 9, 12 community minded 8A residents participated in the semi-annual cleanup of SR 77 from mile marker 91 to 92. The effort produced 17 big blue bags of trash. This was the sixth cleanup that Unit 8A has completed. Taking part in this fall’s cleanup were: Mary Jo and Lee Stastny, Sheila Davidson, Marty Knezovich, Ernie Nedder, Chris and Gene Lee, Jerry and Diane Fox, Karl Knight, Linda Sherfy, and Shelly Ziegler.
