Unit Happenings – March 2025

Making Memories on Cattle Trail

Katie Lundgren

The Unit 6 women were bringing style and fun to their latest Girls’ Night Out. The theme was Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and the evening sparkled just like the iconic film. Guests sipped on Tiffany blue punch and wine while indulging in a lavish charcuterie board.

A special congratulations goes to Irene Harvey, who proved to be the night’s lucky winner, taking home victories in both the Guess the Number of Pearls in the Jar contest and the ever-popular Left-Right-Center game.

Fashion was on point, with most attendees donning classic little black dresses with lots of pearls and sparkles. Jacqueline Fancher turned heads with her creative twist on the theme, arriving in a tuxedo shirt, eye mask, and slippers. Meanwhile, Jackie St.Clair impressed everyone with her handcrafted Tiffany box costume, complete with elegant strands of pearls.

To top off the night, guests left with a little extra knowledge about the 1962 Academy Award-winning film, based on Truman Capote’s beloved novella. Big thanks go to our hostess Karen Handschy. Another unforgettable evening for the Unit 6 ladies and here’s to many more!

Unit 6 Hosts Chili Cook-Off

Katie Lundgren

On Jan. 10, Unit 6 held its highly anticipated Championship Chili Cook-Off. The talented chefs were Andrea Cothran, Chris Swircek, Sheila Muehling, and Mina Carlson, who showcased their best chili recipes to an enthusiastic crowd. Attendees brought a side dish or a dessert to compliment the feast. Judging was intense, with 53 Unit 6 attendees casting their votes. Every pot of chili was praised for its flavor, making it a close competition. Ultimately, Andrea Cothran claimed first place, earning the title of Chili Champion! The event was a resounding success and a crowd favorite. A big thanks goes to our planning committee: Cindy Kreis, Debby Riederer, Pat Korsmeier, Karen Handschy, and Erin Pricco! Until next year…

The Villas at Fourteen Rock and “Roll”

Susie and Wes Morrill

Doesn’t the Villas at Fourteen sound better than Units 14A and B? “Roll?” Bocce, of course. Thirty-two of us, plus substitutes, invaded all four courts on Jan. 17 (reserved, of course) for social bocce. Given the cool temperature, the east end was favored for thawing out. One tight match ended in a “walk off win” with 2 points needed to break a tie and won on the final roll!

One couple on Shale, Sheliah and Drew Drewienkowski, took the lead wanting to organize and promote events and activities for all of us in our neighborhood. Without their natural drive, generosity, and desire to have fun, I doubt we’d be doing most of what we enjoy on a weekly basis. We have tons of friends and fun! Thank you so much guys!

We would challenge any other area when it comes to massive amounts of fun and events. Our Villa friends and neighbors (we welcome friends from any other area to participate) are enjoying in excess of 50 gatherings, events, and outings during the year.

Driveway happy hour, quarterly putting tournaments, assorted weekly gatherings for game and trivia nights, lady’s Bunco, “Bunco Outcasts”the host spouse picks a dinner spot and the guys escape the chaos (LOL), women’s monthly luncheon, Bingo and Bocce.

So, what’s on the “let’s do this” list? Cactus league games (repeated favorite), Topgolf, and Tucson Roadrunners hockey, to name a few. We have over 100 neighbors and friends on our mailing list to keep track of events and items of common interest.

“If it isn’t fun, we don’t want to do it.”

Unit 16C neighbors enjoyed the beautiful sunset while celebrating Mozart’s birthday.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Mozart

On Jan. 26, Unit 16C residents gathered to celebrate the 269th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birthdate. Monthly parties have been the norm since September 2019 when just a few 16C homes existed. This Unit grew to 28 homes but remains cohesive, and known for friendly compatibility and inclusion. Wolfie Mozart would have enjoyed the Hungarian goulash, apple strudel, birthday cake, and much more that was served. The 70degree weather was heaven-sent and allowed the group to remain outside past sundown, with some keeping an eye on the playoff football games. Go Mozart! Go Team 16C! See you in the neighborhood, friends.
