To get members in the holiday spirit and offer suggestions on wines that pair well with holiday meals, on Nov. 9, the Wine Club of SBR (WCSBR) hosted its third formal wine tasting event of 2021. Because of continued social distancing protocols, there were two seatings in the Ranch House Grille main dining room, where members enjoyed wines that paired with some amazing holiday small plate food bites catered by the Oracle Patio Cafe. SBR Wine Advisor Corbin Newman and Cynthia Pylkka, Wine Club culinary chair, and the Oracle Patio Café worked closely together to choose the holiday wines to taste along with carefully selected food pairings.
The wine club members enjoyed five wines and four food pairings, starting with a glass of Poema Cava Brut, while socializing.
The first pairing was Sea Sun Chardonnay, paired with a winter bisque with toasted pepitas.
Following was a Sea Sun Pinot Noir with seared wild caught yellowfin tuna with a sauce of blood orange and warm spices topped with pistachios.
The third tasting was Matchbook, The Arsonist Bordeaux blend, paired with roasted duck with black pepper and cherries.
Finally, a Bouvet-Ladubay Cremant paired with a decadent white fruit cake with lemon creme.
This event would not be possible without the help from a number of members, including Kathie Calbone, tasting event coordinator; Marci Whitehead, tasting event co-coordinator; Gail Latimer, 4:30 registration; and Vicki Warning, 6:30 registration.
