The horseback riding group enjoyed riding through the foothills of the Catalina mountains at their Sept. 26 ride at Westward Look Resort. Two separate groups of six riders each enjoyed the ride up the gentle slopes of the foothills and through stands of cacti and brush. There were some great views of the Catalinas as well as the city of Tucson. There were some new rules this year, with the stable requiring all participants to wear their own helmet or one provided by the stable. All were careful about social distancing, and once they headed down the trail the joy in the freedom to enjoy the outdoors was refreshing. It was a pretty ride, although warm for the time of year.
The group’s Oct. 24 ride was in a part of the Tanque Verde Wash. Saturday, Nov. 14 we’ll see the group at a familiar favorite, Donnelly’s D-Spur Stable in Gold Canyon near Apache Junction. This location offers an excellent view of Phoenix to the west.
The park and stable at Old Tucson is currently closed. The group continues to hope for a new stable to open with rides into the Catalina State Park from nearby Oro Valley or Catalina.
If you would be interested in the group’s activities, go to the SaddleBrooke HOA website and click Things to do—Clubs. In the middle column there is a link to the Horseback Riding Group. Click on the link to the group and then the link under the information for the secretary, Rebecca Williams. There you will see a webpage about the group’s activities and can go to the Read News section for upcoming rides. If you would like to participate, simply click on the link at the bottom left under Contact Us, give your name, the ride you want to join, and if there is a choice, the time you prefer. The secretary will get back to you with a confirmation and can help with any questions you may have. You can participate as often as you choose. All rides are one hour and at a walk, just to enjoy the scenery.
