The Jewish Friendship Group (JFG) Book Club met on Feb. 10 at the home of Sandy Epstein, who presented The Tunnel by A.B. Yehoshua. As always, the discussion was lively and challenging, and at times personal since the book deals with a retiree newly diagnosed with dementia. The freshly squeezed orange juice from her orange tree was a special treat! The March 10 book club was Nesting Dolls by Alina Adams. Book club was both hosted and presented by Laurie Colen.
The monthly Ladies’ Coffee was held by Bonnie Lasky on Feb. 17. Because of COVID restrictions, the group continues to be limited. Bonnie gave a tour of her beautiful home and the members enjoyed coffee, treats, and good conversation. It was lovely to see some new faces at the event. The March Ladies’ Coffee was hosted by Sandy Basker on March 7 and was fully booked before the emails even went out! Word of mouth was obviously very effective here.
On Tuesday, March 15, the JFG and the Institute for Jewish Services and Studies held a Purim party. Hamantaschen from Brooklyn and homemade desserts were offered at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center. Purim is a joyous celebration of freedom, and the celebration often includes costumes and libations to make the revelers tipsy so one cannot tell the good guys from the bad guys.
We enjoyed the first potluck of the new year, held on March 23 at the SaddleBrooke One Activity Center.
Finally, do mark your calendars for the JFG annual Second Seder, which will take place on Saturday, April 16, in the Vermillion Room at SaddleBrooke One. Because Pesach and Easter are being celebrated on the same weekend, we were lucky to get the facilities to hold our dinner, although we will not be able to have the large number of attendees as in the past. More information will be forthcoming in the monthly bulletin.
The Jewish Friendship Group welcomes anyone interested in identifying with the Jewish community here in SaddleBrooke. If you are interested in joining our group, contact Marilyn Anthony at 520-812-1455 or [email protected].
