For the April 19 wine education event, 80 club members tasted Argentinian and Chilean wines during a presentation by Chuck Harder on the wine regions of Argentina and Chile.
Chuck, a SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) resident, had a small vineyard in San Rafael, Argentina, and made some Malbec and Malbec Rose wines. His barrel fermented 2015 Malbec Reserve won a 92 points silver medal in the New York International Wine Competition. Chuck has planted several vineyards in Reno, Nev., and has experience in grape cultivation, winemaking, packaging, and distribution (Wine Distribution in Reno).
During one of his visits to Chile and Argentina, he put together a brief presentation on the wine regions of Chile and some of their impressive wineries there, and the Argentina areas of Mendoza, San Rafael, and Cafayette (grapes grown at 10,000-foot elevation).
He described the process of barrel fermentation currently used on many of the highest quality wines in the world.
We tasted Torrontes, Malbec, and Cab Franc from some of these wineries:
* Zuccardi Malbec
* Clos de Los Siete Red
* Santa Julia Torrontes
* Luigi Bosca Malbec
* Achaval Ferrer Cabernet Franc
The next event is a wine dinner featuring Washington state vineyards scheduled for Tuesday, June 21, in the Sol Ballroom. For information about membership in the Wine Club of SBR, contact Debbie Chapman, membership chair, at [email protected].
