Welcome New Neighbors

Nancy Bader and Tom Edwards, from Minnesota, are now at home in Unit 7. They plan to play pickleball, take long walks, and hike while enjoying the mountain views.

Lisa and Ross Horton heard about SBR from a friend in SaddleBrooke. Now years later, they finally made the move from Fort Worth to Unit 14. They enjoy the mountain views and amenities. She is a yoga teacher and he plays the ukulele.

Marlon and Vicky Gorden learned about SBR from friends while they were living in Vancouver, Wash. These retired “tech geeks” enjoy meeting people and are eager to make new friends while living in Unit 17. In addition to exploring the amenities, they plan on playing pickleball and bocce.

Laurie and Jerry Kunert were eager to leave Sedona for their new home and friendly people in Unit 17. She is interested in horses while his interest is physical fitness.

Erik and Rainie Warner lived in California before moving to SBR. Most recently they moved to Unit 6 from Unit 7 where they have lived since 2014. They have many friends here, and especially enjoy the people and many activities.

Frank Walker and Jackie Jennings moved from Colorado for the weather and to be near family. Their home is in Unit 21A.

John Zukin and Anne Kraul from Portland, Ore., love to travel the world. Anne is a master gardener and John loves playing sports. Both enjoy watching wildlife and are at home in Unit 6.

Lisa and Joe Gifford most enjoy the friendliness of the people, variety of clubs, and that SBR is a “vibrant active community.” When they aren’t traveling to visit islands around the world, Joe does woodworking while Lisa does water activities. They moved from Oregon, and are now in Unit 46A.

Welcome to the new homeowners who closed on their properties in October. We are glad you have joined us to enjoy our beautiful community of SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR).

Moving can be daunting, so SBR is fortunate to have a team of welcome volunteers who can offer a brief respite from those rigors. These volunteers have information designed specifically for you, now an SBR resident. It will, more than likely, be worth your time to talk with a volunteer who may be able to help direct you to the specific information you need. Better yet, this may be the first person you meet from your immediate neighborhood, aka “unit.” In order that you know who will be contacting you, a list of volunteers can be found on GroupWorks (groupworks.com), under SBR Newcomer Volunteers. GroupWorks is a media site used by many SBR organizations.

In addition, each newcomer is invited to attend a monthly informal gathering. This gathering provides an opportunity to share information and to socialize with new homeowners. Photos are also taken for the SaddleBrooke Ranch Roundup newspaper. While the photo is optional, it is a good way to be introduced to the community. If you would like more information about any of these newcomer welcome activities, please send an email to [email protected] or [email protected].

The first thing people want to do when they move in here is to meet new people. A fun way to meet new people is to get involved with activities. The weekly Ranch Reminder email sent from Alex from the Homeowners Association (HOA) has a few activities mentioned. But the best resource is the HOA website. Just log on to saddlebrookeranchhoa.org and click on “Things to Do,” “Clubs,” then “Club Information.” Then click on any activity and find out some information about the group. You may want to contact the person mentioned for additional information. There are nearly 100 activities listed. If you can’t find what you are looking for, consider starting a group. Please note, members of organizations are not likely to knock on your door just to ask you to join a group. It is up to the resident to show some initial interest and show up for an activity. You can be as busy as you want.

In the spring, the HOA hosts Club Expo at which clubs and organizations set up tables in the ballroom to discuss their specific activity in order to sign up new members. There will be more information about Club Expo as the date gets closer.

Finally, you might be surprised at how many people you meet by just going to the Bistro or Ranch House. Most of the people here have been in your shoes, eager to meet people. A smile and a friendly “hello” can work wonders.

Whether you are new to SBR, or moving internally from another home, including rental, please stop by to see Jamie Shipley at the Front Desk as she has some orientation material for you. There is more to moving-in than getting a set of keys and a gate pass. She works for the HOA and is the first person to contact with your questions and issues. Jamie can help ensure that your HOA credit authorization is in place, that you can access the HOA website, that you have a 4-digit code as a backup for entrance to the community, and much more. She is also the contact for getting a guest pass for your guests so they can use the fitness center facilities.

The Front Desk is located in the Ranch House near the main ballroom entrance.

* Howard Friedman and Rita Tillim are happy to move into their brand-new home in Unit 17. They are from New York and found SBR through an internet search. They plan to do lots of hiking.
