Texas Club Brings Lone Star Spirit to SBR

Mary Kay Voss

The Ranch got a full helping of Lone Star hospitality on April 16 as the SBR Texas Club gathered for an evening of brisket, music, and good ole Texas fellowship at the Budahl home.

The highlight of the evening was, without question, the mouthwatering brisket prepared by Tammy and Monte, slow-smoked to perfection and declared by many as “the best this side of the Red River.” Guests arrived carrying an impressive spread of Texas favorites, from cowboy beans and cornbread to Texas caviar, mac and cheese, and homemade pecan pie that would make any Texan proud. All proof that while you can take Texans out of Texas, you can’t take Texas cooking out of Texans.

Adding to the authentic atmosphere, the Ranch’s own Lowell Sletten provided live music on his acoustic accordion, keeping the energy high throughout the evening. Guests enjoyed a spirited round of “Name That City,” as Lowell played familiar Texas tunes and challenged the crowd to guess the town behind the song. The fun continued with a lively singalong, with lyric booklets supplied by Mary Kay, making it easy for everyone to join in.

As the music played, conversations flowed easily among old friends and new, with plenty of laughter, storytelling, and more than a few tall tales. And in true Texas fashion, the evening also featured plenty of free door prizes, adding a little extra excitement and a lot of smiles along the way.

Spouses, partners, the club’s ever-loyal “wannabe Texans” joined in the fun, quickly rediscovering that Texas pride is both contagious and welcoming. By the end of the evening, it was hard to tell who lived in Texas and who simply wished they had.

As the sun set and the stories grew just a little bit taller, one thing became clear: while Texas may be miles away, it’s never far from the hearts of those who call it home.

The SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) Texas Club continues to bring together “displaced Texans” for events filled with camaraderie, good food, and a shared appreciation for all things Texas. And if this gathering was any indication, the spirit of Texas is alive and well at SaddleBrooke Ranch.

After all, as any Texan will tell you—some folks move to Arizona, but Texans just bring Texas with them.

And as for the winners of “Name That City”?

Let’s just say … some folks knew their Texas towns, and some folks just showed up for the pecan pie.

A Night to Remember: Colorado Club Party at Cadillac Chaparral Steakhouse

Crystal Collette

The Colorado Club gathered on May 6 for an unforgettable evening of great food, lively conversation, and Western charm at the Cadillac Chaparral Steakhouse. Members came together to celebrate friendship, community, and good times in true Western style combining classic cowboy atmosphere with modern comforts.

The large bar quickly became the gathering spot with bartenders serving up a variety of beer, wine, and cocktails. The highlight of the night was the BBQ buffet. The spread featured BBQ pulled pork, BBQ shredded chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, cowboy beans, and dinner roll.

Throughout the evening, laughter and conversation filled the room as old friends reunited and new friendships were formed. Country music classics and recent hits provided a fitting backdrop. Many attendees described the event at this new venue as the most enjoyable Colorado Club gathering of the year.

The club committee thanked everyone who attended and helped make the night, and all this season’s gatherings, successful. From the delicious barbecue buffet to the warm camaraderie shared among friends, the party captured the spirit of togetherness that defines the Colorado Club.

As the evening ended, guests left with full hearts (and tummies), happy memories, and excitement for the club’s next event this fall.
