On Feb. 28, more than 120 club members participated in our first 2023 education event called “A Wine Tour of Italy.” The beautiful mountains of Italy and surrounding areas create ideal winemaking conditions for growing some of the greatest wines of the world. They “visited” eight regions of Italy and tasted a representative wine from each region. They learned from Len DiSalvo, our guest speaker, who has been a local wine supervisor and educator in the area for many years.
Regions and wines sampled:
Veneto/Tre Venezie: Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio/Friuli Venezia Giulia
Piedmont: Cantine Barbera d’Asti
Abruzzo: Caldora Montepulciano d’Abruzzo
Tuscany: Tenuta di Arceno Chianti Classico
Sicily: Cusumano Nero d’Avola
Sardinia: Antinori Guado al Tasso Vermintno, Bolgheri
Puglia: Tormaresca Primitivo Neprica, Apulia
Campania: Feudi di San Gregoria Fiano di Avellino
Many thanks to Paul Thomsen and Sheryl Eilenfeldt, the club’s education coordinators, for organizing this event. The club’s next event is a wine tasting on Tuesday, April 18.
