What was it like to be a U.S. Army Huey (Bell UH-1 Iroquois) helicopter pilot in the middle of the Vietnam War? The Huey’s original designation was HU-1, which is how the name “Huey” was derived and was carried forward even after the official designation for the helicopter was changed.
CMSC members, potential members, and spouses are invited to the next CMSC meeting to hear Chief Warrant Officer 2 Robert Asbell tell us about his helicopter experiences. Bob received 23 Air medals, a Bronze Star with “V” Device, and a Purple Heart for his active-duty service from 1965 to 1968. Subsequently, Bob became a Bell Helicopter test pilot for four years.
An email will be sent to all CMSC members in advance of the October meeting with additional details about the meeting and how to indicate attendance.
Potential members interested in attending, contact membership chair Lt. (Junior Grade) David Bull by email at [email protected] or by phone at 520-825-0604.
