Bocce is an ancient Italian game. So why were the members of the Colorado Club playing Bocce on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Arizona? Because it is fun! With teams of two, eight teams of club members headed to SaddleBrooke HOA One for a two-hour friendly competition. Alastair and Helga Stone helped the teams that had never played and to help others refresh their memories of how to play the game. Plainly put, you get the big ball closer to the little ball. Simplicity is fundamental to bocce as the object of the game is to get as many of your teams bocce balls as close to the target ball, called the pallino, as possible.
You could hear cheers and laughter the entire time. In the end, Denis and Cindy Heck out played the other teams to win bragging rights as the winners.
Once finished, the group headed to Jerry and Barb Martin’s home back at the Ranch where other Colorado Club members that did not play joined together for a lovely few hours of appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were tasty, and the drinks quenched the dry spot after the Bocce matches.
Thanks goes out to both couples, Alastair and Helga for organizing the Bocce play and Jerry and Barb Martin for allowing the group into their home.
The next gathering of the Colorado Club will be on Tuesday, May 5, at 4:30 p.m. hosted by Cindy and Denis Heck for Cinco De Mayo Happy Hour complete with a salsa tasting contest. Bring your favorite salsa for all to taste. Bring an appetizer if you want and beverage of your choice.
