When my husband and I first moved to the Ranch in January 2021, we enjoyed meeting so many new neighbors while we were out walking our Labrador, Abby. Having her sure made our transition into the Ranch much easier. I had volunteered with a rescue since 2013 prior to moving here, and when looking at areas to move to, I also investigated places to volunteer. I found Southwest Oasis Lab Rescue (SOLR), and started volunteering with them shortly after moving here. I conduct home visits for potential adopters and help with events. We also always have a need for foster parents, where a Lab will live with you temporarily before being adopted into their furever homes. Fosters get to choose the adopters from an approved list.
One day last spring, a couple here at the Ranch, Mark and Jean Morgan, applied to adopt from SOLR. I conducted their home visit, and I knew they’d be terrific. They had previously had a Lab, also named Abby, like my girl. They welcomed Miley into their home a few months later, and it’s a perfect match all around! Here is what the Morgans say:
“Three years since losing Abby, our black Lab, we made the decision to get a rescue. We found SOLR and it changed our lives in so many ways. After you join, you get updates on adoptable dogs twice a week. Our home was approved for adoption and we were vetted by Miley’s foster mom. Miley was cleared of her heartworm by a specialty vet, and SOLR provided the ground rules that we had to achieve before adopting her. She had us at “hello.”
Please consider volunteering with SOLR, and if you are considering adding a new family member, please fill out an adoption application! Learn more at www.solraz.org.
