Let the Sun Shine In at Glasshoppers

Claudia Knauss

Summer swiftly approaches, and as we prepare for hosting picnics, bar-b-ques, and other celebrations there is much that can be done to make our backyards shine. Even if glancing outside from your great room, master bedroom, or den as you watch TV, the view can be spectacularly enhanced by a beautiful piece of glass designed by you and strategically placed to become an enhancement of your outdoor landscaping! Add a unique stand that perfectly complements your glass, and your yard will be instantly transformed.

Your home décor colors can be replicated in glass, or you can choose to be daring and bring a new color scheme into play. Why limit your outdoor color palate to hues used inside the walls of your home? Anything your mind can imagine—from abstract to patterned or more concrete images—can become a colorful focus by providing a one-of-a-kind glass sculpture for your yard. Outdoor art also affords the opportunity to do “larger-than-normal” projects, bringing bigger ideas to life.

As always, helpful volunteer monitors are on hand to help guide you select a design, determine a color scheme, and decide the most striking layout. Your choices can be influenced by something as distinctive as the rise or setting of the sun on your specific lot. Placement of the final artwork can easily be determined by exploring how the piece will look from various locations of your outdoor furniture (such as a dining table), or how the glass will magnify sunlight when viewed from different windows inside your home.
