Mark Your Calendars: The Best of Tucson Country Music—Live at the Ranch

Janelle Authur

Want to hear and dance to some of the best country bands in Tucson—live—without leaving the Ranch? If the answer is “Yes,” then mark your calendars for the SBR Dance Club’s monthly Western dances.

At its March 10 Western dance, the club announced the talented, popular bands scheduled through September 2023. The bands include a mix of bands returning to the Ranch’s Sol Ballroom stage as well as first-time performers. All are well-known and respected in the Tucson music scene and regularly play at familiar area venues, including Whiskey Roads, Maverick, Outlaw Bar and Grill, Pima County Fair, Craft Republic, and various venues in Florence, Tombstone, Sierra Vista, Coolidge, Sonoita, and Bisbee. Most recently, the Anthony Taylor Jr. Band, scheduled for the club’s fall kick-off dance in September, was a headliner for the annual Barn Dance at the 2023 Tucson Rodeo.

Mark your calendars for the following dates, put on your cowboy boots and hats, and come on down!

* Saturday, April 1—Clear Country

* Friday, May 12—Highway Outlaws

* Friday, June 9—Whiskey Riverdogs

* Friday, July 14—Wild Ride!

* Friday, Aug. 4—Patrick Rayl and the .357 Band

* Friday, Sept. 8—Anthony Taylor Jr. Band

Other dance dates for 2023 are Friday, Oct. 13, Thursday, Nov. 9, and Thursday, Dec. 7. Bands for these dates will be announced at a later date.

The club started sponsoring monthly Western dances in the Sol Ballroom in September 2021 and in April 2023 will host its 20th monthly dance. After two successful “no frills, boom box” Western-themed dances, the club quickly moved to featuring live bands and offering Western dance lessons, including 2-step, waltz, swing, 3-step, and partner pattern.
