New Class: Tapestry Mosaic Panel, March 30 and April 6

Dale Farland

SaddleBrooke Ranch (SBR) residents so thoroughly enjoyed the class for the Fun, Funky Tapestry Mosaic Magnets taught by Gillian Allard, they requested that she teach other classes utilizing her amazing design and creativity talents. In response, Gillian is returning to the SBR Art Club to teach this Tapestry Mosaic Panel class.

Gillian, an artist from the Southern Arizona Arts Guild (SAAG), will be teaching her two 3 to 3 1/2 hour session classes, on Thursday, March 30, and returning a week later on Thursday, April 6. If you shop at the SAAG store in La Encantada, you may have seen her artwork of tapestry mirrors and panels.

Class description: Each student will learn the technique of tapestry or nongrout mosaic and leave with a 3-inch by 12-inch panel artfully covered with tile, beads, and found objects. Raid your button box, explore your bead hoard, or find a use for broken jewelry for materials to bring to class. Complete instructions will be provided to make sure you have the perfect pieces to complete your panel. The panel will be finished with copper tape on the edges and hardware on the back for hanging.

During Session 1, we will create a design plan and place the border. In Session 2, we will finish the rest of the design and the project.

Dates for the two classes: Thursday, March 30 and Thursday, April 6

Time: 1 p.m. Sessions each take 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Class fee: $180. Make out a check to SBR Art Club and deposit it in the Art Room lockbox.

Class size: Minimum: 6, Maximum: 12

Payment deadline date: Thursday, March 16. Students and instructor need time to acquire materials!

Materials the instructor will provide: Base Panel, hardware, border tiles, adhesive, and tools. After payment, students will need to let Gillian know their color palette in advance (by March 16) so she can provide an appropriate selection of tiles for the border of the panel.

Materials participants to bring: You will be using buttons, beads, broken jewelry, and other similar “found” items to be focal points of your design. Gillian will send instructions for selecting the materials you will need for the class. This will include information on the different types and quantities of materials needed, and if you need more than what you have available, places to shop locally and online, to make sure you have a great selection of materials to work with.

Registration: Go to GroupWorks. Click on “Events.” Click on “I’m Going.” Confirmation is depositing your check in the lockbox outside the Art Room door. Please do not click “I’m Going” unless you intend to take the class.

Reminder: Starting in 2023, participants in all art classes are to be a member of the SBR Art Club. If you want to join the SBR Art Club, contact Dale Farland at [email protected] for membership forms. Membership for SBR Art Club is only $25.
