The Valentine’s Day Sock Hop event at the SBR tent on February 14 was attended by 52 residents and preferred guests. It was the memories of our past…from the balloon arch around the picture booth to the 50s themed drinks. DJ Warren, who can keep us moving, played the tunes that we could sing along to and dance away the night. Providing our “home cooked” meals were the ever bubbly staff from the Bistro kitchen. It was an ahhhh moment. An assortment of candies from the 50s/60s decorated the tables, and root beer floats completed the evening.
Teenage girls attending wore the fashion of the era with white shirts and blue jeans and two of the “teeners” wore dresses with the flair from that time. Completing the look was the standard white gym shoes or saddle shoes. Our boyfriends wore jeans with white t-shirts and a few had the leather jackets.
The Sock Hop had a number of contests to round out the evening. It began with the anniversary dance, and as the number of married years were being called, fewer and fewer of us were left until the remaining couple were Mike and Gerri Koen. The loving couple received a bouquet of Valentine flowers.
Best Couples Costumes: Judy Verbeke and Rick Heupel; Best Over-All Costume: Judy Bott; The Most Awesome Twist Dancer: Cliff Terry; The One and Only Bubble Gum Champion: Doreen Reynolds; and of course, the Famous Hula Hoop contest: Judy Bott. All the winners received a $5 gift card to the Bistro.
Completing our evening was dancing to the stroll. A number of our residents have some pretty fancy steps.
We would like to send a special thanks to Cheri Utsler who took pictures of one and all.
