Your library is once again sponsoring a Community Read. There was a very positive response to the first event, and we hope you will join us this time as well.

What: A Community Read happens when interested residents at SBR independently read the same book and then meet in person for discussion.

When: Tuesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m.

Where: La Hacienda Club, La Mesa/La Montana Rooms

Book: The Forgotten Botanist: Sara Plummer Lemmon’s Life of Science and Art, by Wynne Brown

Do you get the connection between Sara Plummer Lemmon and one of our local geographical attractions? As you will discover when you read the book (do not forget to read it before Oct. 24!), Sara was given the honor of having Mount Lemmon named for her. You will absolutely agree she deserves it.

The book brings us a vivid picture of this courageous, dauntless, talented botanist. It also includes some of her exquisite artwork, done while trekking through extremely rough terrain wearing the typical formal dress of the 1880s, and at times dodging oddball characters, Apaches, and ongoing illness.

Please get your copy soon and enjoy this informative read, and RSVP to the library email [email protected]. Walk-ins will also be welcome.
