The SaddleBrooke Winds and Strings (SBWS) band will be performing its first concert in the DesertView Performing Arts Center on the evening of Feb. 24.

Our concert, “Images and Impressions,” features pieces that can be described as “tone poems.” The pieces are meant to convey an image, and throughout the concert, we will be projecting several images on the screen above us. The show also features 20 singers from SaddleBrooke’s Sonoran Singers accompanying the band, and several videos to accompany the music.

SaddleBrooke Winds and Strings is comprised of amateur and professional musicians from SaddleBrooke and surrounding areas. SBWS was founded by SaddleBrooke residents in 2013. As the group expanded, rehearsals moved from residents’ homes to MountainView Ballroom. Performances over the years have been held at MountainView Ballroom, Catalina State Park, and various retirement communities in the northwest Tucson region.

We are now under the baton of an accomplished conductor, Jesus Jacquez, who graduated in music education from the University of Arizona (U of A); has eight years teaching band, orchestra, and chorus in the public schools; and plays clarinet in the Arizona Symphonic Winds, Sonora Winds, and the Tucson Concert Band. He serves in Educational Services at the Instrumental Music Center and has plans to pursue graduate studies in conducting at the U of A.

Our first concert in December, under Jesus, was a phenomenal success. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to hear a brand-new program by this talented group of musicians.
