SBRMGA 2022: What’s Happening

Tom Graham

It’s been a busy 2022 thus far and looks to be even busier the rest of the year. In addition to the SaddleBrooke Ranch Men’s Golf Association (SBRMGA) weekly Thursday shotgun games, we held three special multiday events. The first was our three-day Ryder Cup with 100 members competing on two teams. Congratulations to the Blue Team, captained by Stephen Schneck, on a close win over the Red Team, captained by B.J. Shultz. Next, we crowned a new Club Champion, Mark Whims. The two-day event attracted another 100 of our members to tee it up for the competition. We held our two-day Member-Member tournament won by Ed Harrington and Jim Mulhall. This event attracted another 96 members.

The second half of 2022 will see a heightened level of activity. Adding to our weekly events, we’ll share the course with the Women’s Golf Association (WGA) for a Mixed Sticks competition and hopefully we’ll be asked to dance in the annual WGA Sadie Hawkins golf event. Tucked between and beyond these events is a multiweek Match Play Tournament. It’s flighted, with opportunities to succeed both in the championship brackets and the consolation brackets. Following this is the annual two-day Founders’ Cup tournament, a low net tournament celebration of our MGA founders. For the first time ever, the MGA will hold a Member-Guest tournament. This multiday event, including nongolf festivities, will occupy early November. Expectations are high as we have learned much from other regional clubs. Finally, we have set aside another two days for a special event yet to be named.

Weekly events are a staple of the MGA. Over an eight-week period we hold two individual scoring competitions, two four-man team computer pick competitions, two two-man team computer pick competitions, one four-man pick your team, and one two-man pick your partner competitions. The competitions cover multiple game formats. The MGA recognizes the social needs of our growing SaddleBrooke Ranch Community and uses the computer picks to introduce our members to new and old alike.

Make some new friends and renew old acquaintances—become part of the SBRMGA. Many thanks to our Weekly Events Chair, Mick Borm, and to our Special Events Chair Bruce Haney. It’s great to be golfing!
