The SaddleBrooke Ranch Men’s Golf Association (SBRMGA) concluded its highly anticipated annual Club Championship Tournament, famously known as the Updegraff Cup. Over two glorious days on April 10 and 11, the verdant greens of our pristine course bore witness to some truly exceptional golfing prowess.
This year’s tournament saw an impressive turnout of 105 entries, each eager to showcase their skills and claim the prestigious titles up for grabs. Amongst them, nine contenders vied for the revered Updegraff Cup Belt and the esteemed honor of being crowned the 2024 SBRMGA Club Champion.
Championship Glory
In the Championship Flight, the competition was fierce, but it was Bill Borden who emerged victorious, holding his nerve and his lead to clinch the title of SBRMGA Club Champion. With a stellar performance on day two, posting a commendable 75, Bill secured his place atop the leaderboard, finishing three strokes ahead of his closest rival, Dan Anderson. It was a masterful display of skill and determination, earning Bill well-deserved accolades.
Flight Victories
Throughout the tournament, excellence abounded in each flight, with winners showcasing their talent and tenacity on the course.
Timmy Baker’s steady play saw him triumph in Flight 1, maintaining his lead and fending off stiff competition to claim victory. In Flight 2, John Whitehead’s outstanding round of 73 on the final day propelled him to a well-deserved six-shot win, demonstrating his unwavering focus and skill under pressure. Flight 3 witnessed Mike Kravitz’s impressive surge, as he soared to the top with a smooth 80 on day two, showcasing his ability to rise to the occasion when it matters most. Brian Baker dominated Flight 4 with an ironclad performance, leaving no room for doubt as he secured a commanding six-stroke victory. Chris Swircek’s stellar performance in Flight 5 was nothing short of exceptional, as he rose to the challenge and emerged victorious with a display of precision and poise.
Celebrating Excellence
In addition to the thrilling competition, the tournament also featured special awards for Closest to the Pin, highlighting moments of precision and finesse on specific holes. Congratulations to John Whitehead, Jim Mulhall, Paul Berry, Bill Borden, Ross Horton, Troy Peterson, and Guy Shelton for their remarkable achievements in this regard.
As the sun set on another successful Updegraff Cup, the SaddleBrooke Ranch community basked in the glow of camaraderie, sportsmanship, and shared passion for the game. With each swing of the club, friendships were forged, memories were made, and the spirit of competition flourished.
