Presidents Cup Tournament
Pam Horwitt, president of SaddleBrooke Ranch Women’s Golf Association (SBRWGA) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 President’s Cup: Evie Thompson. She had an impressive net score of 138 for the two-day event. Evie was in the top four at the end of Day 1 and teed off with leaders on Day 2, finishing in first place. Evie was the recipient of the Most Improved Player 2021. Practice and consistent play over the last few years yielded this great result. All our players congratulate Evie for her big win.
Forty-six golfers went out playing in gorgeous winter/spring weather. We had six flights in total. Our flights were named to honor our past SBRWGA presidents. We thank these women for their dedication and their continued support.
There were four closest to the pin winners on the par 3s: hole number 2, Joanne Garcia; hole number 5, Mary Snowden; hole number 12, Susan Ness; hole number 14, Susan Pharr.
After the round on Day 2, we enjoyed a delicious lunch in the ballroom while celebrating with all the winners.
Our premier sponsor for our two-day tournament was Kim Tucker, M.D., Banner University Health. Our closest–to–the–pin sponsors were: Team Platinum, Floor Coverings International, Pride Solar Panel Cleaning, and Stone Canyon Painting.
Quarter 1 2024, Chip-In Results
We have 53 players paid in to the Chip-In contests. At the end of each quarter, those having made a chip-in(s) during the prior three months are awarded a portion of the monies. Twenty-four players posted at least one chip. There were three members who posted three chip-ins for January through March: Kathi Dyer, Suz Schuster, and Cathy Steel.
Offsite Tournaments
We’re not just playing golf at the Ranch. In between our weekly league and tournament play, during our “off” time, we head out to Southern Arizona courses to compete in regional tournaments. It’s fun and exciting to be a team player representing our SBRWGA.
One tournament in progress is The Catalina Cup, which is a Gross and Net Match Play competition between 10 local clubs taking place between October 2023 and May 2024. Six team members in three flights are sent from each of 10 participating clubs to play one another. Points awarded at each competition are accumulated throughout the season. Awards are presented at the culmination of the season to the team with the most overall points, the team with the most gross points, and the team with the most net points. Two more events were scheduled before the winners were announced at the end of April. Led by co-captains Jean Cheszek and Barb Simms, our 2023-24 team includes: Kathy Anderson, Alex Anna, Brenda Armenia, Monika Bartko, Judy Callahan, Carole Ericksen, Toni Graves, Karen Jordan, Nanci Messner, Janice Mihora, Susan Ness, Karen Oprish, Jeanne Osterlund, Faye Puelston, Suz Schuster, Debbie Shelton, Lynn Skeele-Flynn, Diane Taylor, Melanie Timberlake, Diana Walton.
