Tucson Chamber Artists (TCA), entering its second decade as Tucson’s professional chamber choir, opens the 2014-15 acclaimed Vista Fine Arts series on Sunday, October 12, at 3:00 p.m. at Vista de la Montaña Methodist Church, 3001 E Miravista Lane, Catalina, with a pre-concert talk given by conductor Eric Holtan at 2:15 p.m. This concert also kicks off TCA’s 11th season titled Music Where You Live, for which TCA has added 50% more concerts in new areas and venues across the community.
In one of TCA’s most diverse programs yet, the concert, titled America the Beautiful, includes music from America’s rich folk and spiritual music traditions. A special segment of the concert will trace the evolution of America’s National Anthem, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this autumn. Other works considered as treasured anthems include Lift Every Voice and Sing, Amazing Grace, and Danny Boy. TCA steps outside of the box with Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind, which is widely considered to be the most influential folk anthem of the second half of the last century. Beloved pieces by the “father of American music,” Stephen Foster, will be featured along with excerpts from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.
Tickets for the October 12 concert at Vista are available now! Advanced general admission tickets are just $20 ($25 at the door) and are available from Donna Langwig at Vista at 297-3042, or by calling TCA at 401-2651.
