Sadly our movie season is approaching its seasonal hiatus. The last feature for 2014-15 will be The Imitation Game, the story of World War II hero Alan Turing who broke the Nazi secret code. This film was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor. Be sure to mark your calendars for this superb event: Tuesday, April 28, at 2:15 and 7:00 p.m. Sorry, still no food or beverages permitted.
April is a fantastic month at the DVCC for movie goers. The Theory of Everything, St. Vincent, and Wild will be screened on April Tuesdays. This quartet of outstanding movies represents the strongest lineup we’ve ever been able to put together. Go to our website www.desertviewcc.org for descriptions and previews.
March was pretty good, too, with Best Picture winner Birdman joining with Nightcrawler, Rosewater, Gone Girl and The Homesman. Plan on coming to the cinema as often as possible.
Our experience over 10 years and our financial position shows that we cannot sustain movies at the DVPAC as our winter residents leave for cooler climes. Here is a list of the top movies we’re unable to offer but you might consider viewing: Mr. Turner, American Sniper, Whiplash, Selma, Foxcatcher and Still Alice.
Movies will resume at DVPAC in November; 2015 memberships run through December. We’ll announce the movies in October. See y’all then!
