The Rancheros Square Dance Club is working on starting a new set of lessons on Jan. 5. There will be an opportunity to give the activity a try for free that evening starting at 7 p.m. in the MountainView Ballroom over at SaddleBrooke. The Rancheros Squares and SaddleBrooke Squares have a live caller present at all lessons. The clubs work together on the lessons to help defray that expense.

This time the lessons will be focused on completing the initial 50 calls, also known as the Social Square Dance list, by the end of January. Those participating will have a 90-minute lesson starting at 7 p.m. on Thursdays and a 60-minute lesson starting at 6 p.m. on Sundays. The set of lessons will be completed by the end of January and those participating could potentially go to any dance in the U.S. that is offering Social Square Dancing.

After this initial set of calls, the lessons will move on to a slightly more advanced level known as “PLUS.” Those lessons will start in early February with a lesson on Thursday evenings starting at 7 p.m. and a review of that week’s lesson for one hour starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Those lessons are planned to be completed by early April, and those participating can dance nearly everywhere in the U.S. and around the world once they have graduated from PLUS.

If you are interested in attending the free square dance lesson, please RSVP to Rebecca Williams at [email protected] or call/text 847-212-0505. That way we can assure we have enough experienced dancers there to help you. Having experienced dancers to help the new dancers is a key part of our lesson program so you can be assured of plenty of help along the way as you learn this fun new activity.
